The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union believes in supporting its student members and its members who are parents of students.
Each year, six (6) scholarships are awarded to its members who are enrolled in a college or university.
NORTHERN JOINT COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIPS
It is that time of year again! The Northern Joint Council
is now accepting applications for the following scholarships:
1. The Walter Kensit Scholarship in the amount of $750.
Topic: The Importance of Organizing Workers into the Union
2. The Al Lachance Scholarship in the amount of $750.
Topic: The Importance of Local Union Administration
3. The Manfred Hoffman Scholarship in the amount of $750.
Topic: Why are Unions necessary in today's society?
4. The Northern Joint Council Technology Award in the amount of $750.
Topic: How can Unions use technology to better represent it members?
5. The Paul Labelle Scholarship in the amount of $750.
Topic: Why is it necessary for Unions to be politically active?
(municipally, provincially, and federally)
All RWDSU members, their spouses or their children who will be attending a college or university during the 2010 - 2011 academic year are eligible to apply for a scholarship.
You may apply for as many scholarships as you wish.
In order to be selected as a scholarship winner, the following application criteria must be met:
(a) All essays must be accompanied by a high school, college or university
transcript for the 2009 - 2010 academic school year.
(b) All essays must be accompanied with proof of enrollment into a full-time
course of study leading to a diploma or degree from any publicly-
recognized college or university.
(c) All essays must be accompanied by a brief resume outlining non-
academic interests and activities, such as community or political
involvement, as well as goals for the future.
(d) All essays submitted must be 1000 words or more.
All applications must be completed and postmarked by August 1, 2010.

UFCW Scholarship Program
The UFCW is about workers coming together to build better lives for ourselves. It's about creating opportunity.
That's why each year the UFCW awards several scholarships of up to $8,000 each to UFCW members or their unmarried dependents.
The scholarship application will be available January 15 - April 15, 2010

UFCW Canada: The Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu Scholarship
The Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu Scholarship was started by the UFCW Canada National Council to honour the memory of three outstanding activists and labour leaders. William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Romeo Mathieu spent many years building our union and making Canada a better place for working people.
The Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu Scholarship is worth $1,000 and the National Council proudly awards it to 18 UFCW Canada members every year.
The deadline for receiving applications is September 30th.
